Baby’s First Food – Sprouted Finger Millet (Ragi) Porridge

Research indicates that Babies after 6 months need Iron rich food for healthy body and brain development. Healthy, full-term babies have enough iron stores in their bodies to last for at least the first six months. Iron from natural sources is preferred over fortified sources.

Finger Millet/Ragi porrdige/sathu maav is known as Super food- for its rich Iron content and sprouting process increases the nutritional value. Making Ragi Porridge one of the most nutritious food for babies. 

 

  • 2 tablespoon Ragi flour / powder
  • 1 cup water 
  • 1 Tbsp clarified butter (ghee)

 

 

Instructions

  • Take a saucepan, add 1 cup of water and blend the millet powder/ragi powder into it.
  • Create a lump free batter like consistency
  • On low flame, cook until you see glossy shine to the mixture. (5-7mins)
  • Add clarified butter/ghee or desired fruit puree (optional)
  • Wait until it reaches room temperature before giving it your baby.

Note

Millet Porridge is versatile and you can add vegetable puree, fruit puree, nut powder as per your baby's taste buds.
